Insect-derived animal feed ingredients

The idea
Alternative feed ingredients from silkworm biotechnology; Loopworm example.
Why this is interesting
- Feed buyers judge an ingredient on consistency, nutrition and price per batch, so an alternative protein has to fit existing formulation and purchasing practice as well as sustainability goals.
- Omnivore describes this through a company in its own portfolio, in a fund newsletter. That shows one team is attempting the approach. It does not show that the market is open or that customers are underserved, and the newsletter’s traction claims were not independently checked.
Possible starting points
Single-segment feed trial
Work with one aquaculture, poultry or pet-food formulator to test an insect ingredient against the protein it would replace.
Rearing supply reliability
Investigate whether silkworm rearing can supply a processing unit steadily enough across seasons.
Questions to answer
- Which feed segment adopts a new ingredient fastest, and which tests or approvals do formulators require?
- Can supply be held steady at a price formulators will accept?
