Financial Services and Insurtech AI

Source

The idea

Apply AI to underwriting, claims processing, algorithmic trading, and personalized financial advice.

Why this is interesting

  • Underwriting, claims, trading and advice are separate workflows with separate buyers: an underwriting or claims team at an insurer or lender, a trading desk, and an advice business that faces retail customers. Claims and underwriting are the most bounded, because inputs are documents and the outcome is a decision a person can review.
  • The source lists functions without naming a buyer or India-specific condition, so the opportunity is largely portable. The adoption assumption is that regulated institutions will let a model influence decisions they are accountable for; that depends on audit, explainability and regulatory comfort the source does not address.

Possible starting points

01

Claims document intake

Structure and check claim documents for an insurer’s claims team before a human adjuster decides.

02

Underwriting file preparation

Assemble and flag an applicant’s file for a credit or insurance underwriter without making the final decision.

Questions to answer

  1. Which decision stays with a licensed or accountable person, and what evidence will they need to trust the output?
  2. Does the institution buy this as software, or does it expect the vendor to carry part of the operational risk?
